India saw a spike of 3,604 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours taking the total tally up to 70,756 the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday (12 May). As many as 87 new fatalities were also reported in a day.
Of the total cases, 46,008 are active and 2,293 are fatalities so far while at least 22,455 people have recovered from the disease.
In Maharashtra, the Covid-19 cases mounted to 23,401, followed by Gujarat that has 8,541 cases and Tamil Nadu reporting 8,002 cases so far.
The state of Maharashtra has also reported the highest number of deaths, as many as 868, which is followed by Gujarat (513) and Madhya Pradesh (221).
At least 7,233 people in the national capital have been infected with the highly contagious Coronavirus.
States which have reported more than 3,000 cases are Rajasthan (3,988), Madhya Pradesh(3,785) and Uttar Pradesh (3,573).
Other major states and Union Territories that have reported more than 1,000 cases, are West Bengal (2,063), Andhra Pradesh (2,018), Punjab (1,877) and Telangana (1,275).
