As many as 16 people including 11 mothers and two newborn babies were killed in a terror attack on a maternity clinic in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Tuesday (12 May), reports Hindustan Times.

The attack was carried out by a group of terrorists who stormed into the clinic and opened fire. Following the attack, a gunfight between Afghan security forces and terrorists began, which ended several hours later. However, by then 16 lives had already been lost, while as many other people had been left injured.

No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the dastardly terror attack, even the Taliban has denied any involvement in it.

MEA added, "The perpetrators of such heinous acts and their sponsors and supporters should be held accountable and brought to justice. They should be forced to eradicate safe havens and sanctuaries that have abetted terrorism in the region for decades and caused immense miseries to untold number of people in the region."

Meanwhile, in response to the development, President Ashraf Ghani delivered a television address in which he directed the war-torn nation's security forces to end their "active defence position" and return to "offensive postures" and to resume their operations against the enemy forces.
