Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has come ahead with a novel initiative to organise blood donation camp today (20 April) as the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the blood banks across the nation, reports Asian News International (ANI).
The blood donation camp will be organised by CRPF with assistance from the All India Institution of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi's Okhla. As per CRPF's senior medical officer Navin Tyagi, AIIMS' Main Blood Bank had reached out to the paramilitary force to deal with the fall in stocks of blood.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that as per the National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC), the total units of blood donated has dropped from 38,189 in February to 26,741 in March. As per NBTC's website, April month has only witnessed the donation of 3,037 units of blood in the first ten days.
The number of blood donation camps in the nation has also witnessed a drastic drop from 473 in February to just 46 in April so far.
