Merely days after Sukhbir Singh Badal led Shiromani Akali Dal broke multi-decadal ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and left the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the BJP's newly appointed national general secretary Tarun Chugh has announced that in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, the party will be contesting on all 117 seats, reports Hindustan Times.

Speaking about the same, Chugh not only asserted that in 2022 Punjab will have a Chief Minister (CM) from the BJP but also stressed, "We need to start groundwork with new energy as the countdown has begun."

This marks a major change for the BJP which had been contesting the elections in Punjab in an alliance with SAD for 24 long years. SAD broke off the ties over the newly notified three farm sector legislation which are meant to overhaul the way agricultural marketing takes place in the nation today.

SAD had asserted after its break up, that the BJP led Government at the Centre had not consulted it before pushing the three legislations. Meanwhile, the BJP has denied the claim.
