As Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal's scheme to provide free transport to women in public buses comes into force after 31 October, the public transport in Delhi received a major shot in the arm with new 104 CNG-run buses being flagged off yesterday (15 October), reports Asian News International (ANI).
The procurement of 104 buses comes after years of delay in the procurement of more buses to augment the strength and offerings of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). As per a tweet posted by CM Kejriwal, procurement of more than 1,000 buses for Delhi is said to have gathered pace.
It should be noted that in four days from now, the travel for women in the national capital will be made free in both, the DTC-run and the privately-run cluster buses. The cost for the same will be borne by the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD).
