Denying Double Standards, China Justifies Its Stand On Masood Azhar

BySwarajya Staff

China has refuted Indian allegations that it was showing double standards on terrorism, claiming that it had a “just” stand on blocking India’s bid to list Pakistani terrorist Masood Azhar as a global terrorist.

Responding to Indian Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar on the Jaish-e-Mohammad chief, accused of masterminding the 2016 Pathankot terror attack on an Indian air base, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang claimed that they had taken a responsible and constructive part in the discussion in a professional and objective manner.

Allegation that China adopts double standards on the UN Security Council 1267 committee listing matter does not stand. China takes action based on solid evidence that is the one standard we use.

China was the only country in the 15-member Counter-Terrorism Committee of the UN Security Council that objected to India's application to list Azhar as a global terrorist.

Geng said the committee was yet to come to a conclusion and that China was ready to coordinate with all parties including India.
