Residing in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh, the descendants of renowned freedom fighter Mangal Pandey have stated that they are going to vote for the BJP candidate Virendra Singh Mast in their constituency because of the faith they have in Prime Minister Narendra, reports The Times of India.
Being the fifth generation descendants of the hero of 1857 War of Independence, the two brothers, Santosh Kumar Pandey and Prabhu Nath Pandey have declared their support for Mast against his opponent Sanatan Pandey of the Samajwadi Party.
“If we are sitting safely today in free India, it is because of the trust we have in the Narendra Modi government. We are delighted the way India struck at Pakistan after the Pulwama terror attack,” said 63-year-old Prabhu Nath.
The two brothers had previously filed a legal case against the 2005 film Mangal Pandey: The Rising. Santosh said that they were hoping that Modi would release a postal stamp honouring Mangal Pandey, as well as erecting a statue of the freedom fighter within the Parliament.
Santosh added that they had also been impressed by the actions of the government to promote Hindi.
