Dhoni Moves SC Seeking Possession Of Rs 1.25 Crore Amrapali Group Flat He Bought For Rs 20 Lakh

Fearing cancellation of the allotment of a 5,800 square feet penthouse in Noida, cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni has moved the Supreme Court seeking the possession of the property developed by the controversy-hit Amrapali group, reports Times of India.

Dhoni bought a five BHK penthouse with a family lounge in Sector 45 in Noida in 2009 for just Rs 20 lakh against the market price of Rs 1.25 crore. He is one of the 655 buyers who got the flats at throwaway prices. The SC appointed Auditors have sought an explanation from Dhoni on the purchase.

Dhoni’s explanation was tha t the cost concession for him was because he was the brand ambassador of the Amrapali and that it should also be taken into the consideration that the group had not paid his dues.

The auditors, in their report to the SC, said in some cases the flats were sold by the group at Re 1 per sq ft while crores of unaccounted money was invested in its various housing projects.

As per the report, the The developer sold flats at ‘throwaway’ prices on paper but received around Rs 159 crore black money in cash from buyers.

With SC indicating that allotment of flats sold at such prices could be cancelled, Dhoni, in his application filed to the apex court said, he too, like others, has been duped of over Rs 100 crore by the group.

Dhoni also said that, he personally invested around Rs 25 crore, on an assurance of a return of Rs 75 crore, on the project and the group owed him around Rs 39 crore as endorsing charges and he is seeking reimbursement of Rs 114 crore.
