China’s embassy in Stockholm has rejected yet another apology for a Swedish television programme mocking Chinese tourists, The South China Post has reported.
Chinese embassy described the apology as “insincere” even as it continued its criticism of the Scandinavian nation over an incident in which three Chinese tourists were unceremoniously booted out of a Stockholm hostel four weeks ago.
A Chinese Tourist Zheng and his parents were forcibly vacated from a Stockholm hostel after arriving a day before their reservation but refused to leave the premises.
Sweden’s national broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT) tendered an apology for a satirical video that appeared to be mocking Chinese tourists by running a list of do’s and dont’s.
The video had imagery which was deemed offensive by the Chinese including signboards telling Chinese tourists not to defecate on the streets and advised them not to mistake pet dogs for lunch.
The Chinese embassy said that the apology failed to address racial discrimination against Chinese and ignored the programme’s use of a map of China in which Taiwan and parts of the Tibet region were missing.
China-Sweden relations was already hit by China’s anger over a recent visit to Sweden by exiled Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama.
