‘Doesn’t Matter If Two-Film-Olds Are Ungrateful To Industry’: Raveena Tandon Calls Zaira Wasim’s Views “Regressive”

Veteran Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon has taken to strong words over the issue of actress Zaira Wasim quitting acting because it ‘threatened’ her faith.

“Doesn’t matter if two film olds are ungrateful to the industry that have given them all. Just wish they’d exit gracefully and keep their regressive views to themselves,” she tweeted.

On Thursday, in a long post shared across different social media platforms, Dangal-fame actress Zaira Wasim said that she was ending her acting career as it was threatening her religion, In a post filled with references from Quran, Wasim said that the industry environment damaged her “peace, ‘imaan’ and relationship with Allah (God).” She said that she had lost all the ‘Barakah’ [blessing] from her life.

In her post, the 18-year-old said, "Don’t look for role models or measures of success in the displeasure of Allah and the transgressions of His commandments. Do not allow such people to influence your choices in life or dictate your goals or ambitions."

Tandon took to Twitter to criticise Wasim’s take on her religion in contradiction with acting career. She said in a later Tweet, “I standby and love my industry, all the opportunities it gives to everyone.” Tandon said that in the industry all work shoulder to shoulder, “no differences, caste, religion or where you come from”.

Tandon clarified that exit was “by all means” Zaira Wasim’s person choice over her personal reasons. “Just do not demean it for everyone else,” she said.

“I respect her decision to quit, announce to her fans. Her life, her choice. It would’ve been more graceful if she had not condemned all as the reason for doing so,” Tandon said.

She added that discovering spirituality was a beautiful thing, but Wasim shouldn’t demean others. “When girls in industry are wronged, I’m the first to protest,” she said.
