The poll authorities in Punjab on Wednesday (15 May) announced addition of Rs 1,74, 644 in the election expenditure of Sunny Deol, who is Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Punjab’s Gurdaspur, after complaint by state Congress that a Facebook page titled ‘Fans of Sunny Deol’ is being run without election body’s permission, reports NDTV.
Acting on the complaint of Congress on 6 May, Punjab’s chief electoral officer (CEO) S Karuna Raju said an inquiry was conducted by a nodal officer of the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee of Gurdaspur, reports The Hindu.
The poll authorities also issued a notice to the actor-turned-politician and the admin of ‘Fans of Sunny Deol’ Page seeking their explanation on the issue.
However, both failed to reply within the given time frame and therefore the committee decided to add Rs 1,74,644 to the poll expenditure of Deol.
The 62-year-old BJP candidate is the third Deol to join politics - and the BJP - after his father Dharmendra and stepmother Hema Malini, both yesteryears Bollywood superstars.
