The Islamic Republic of Pakistan was hit by a massive electricity blackout last night, spanning across much of the nation, pushing crores into darkness, reports News18.

The blackout was triggered by a fault in southern Pakistan at 11:41 pm local time as per the information shared by the nation's Federal Power Minister Omae Ayub Khan who also elaborated that the fault tripped the transmission system of the country which resulted into the shutdown of power plants.

Meanwhile, as per the nation's Ministry of Energy, power services have been restored in some parts and work is going on to restore the supply completely by afternoon today (10 January).

It should be recalled that back in 2015, Pakistan had been rocked by a rebel attack on a key power line which pushed over 80 per cent of the Islamic Republic into darkness. The blackout marked one of the worst ever faced by Pakistan in its short existence.
