Electricity Demand Continues To Surge, Crosses February 2020’s Record Peak Power Demand

As per the data from the Ministry of Power, peak power demand met (highest supply) in a day has remained high in the first week of February and surpassed the record high supply 176.38 gigawatts (GWs) for entire February last year, reports Economic Times.
The data shows that the peak power demand met was at 187.71 GWs on 1 February, 188.15 GWs on 2 February, 188.11 GWs on 3 February, 183.81 GWs on 4 February and 184.34 GWs on 5 February.
It should be noted that Union Minister for Power RK Singh has exuded confidence that the power demand in the nation would soon surpass 200 GWs.
The power demand has been on a growth trajectory since September last year. September saw peak power demand grow at 1.7 per cent, followed by 3.4 per cent in October, 3.5 per cent in November, 7.3 per cent in December and nearly 11 per cent in January.
