George Soros
"Soros reminds me of Magneto," Elon Musk tweeted Tuesday (16 May).
The comment makes a reference to, and draws an equivalence between, two individuals — one real, the other fictional — Hungarian-American businessman George Soros and the Marvel comic book villain Magneto.
In a subsequent tweet responding to a journalist, Musk added: "He wants to erode the very fabric of civilization. Soros hates humanity."
Soros Fund Management cut its stake in Tesla Inc, the American manufacturer of electric automobiles whose chief executive officer is Musk.
Soros, 92, had purchased Tesla convertible bonds worth $35 million in 2018 and picked up Tesla shares last year, now all of them dumped.
He is a "tragic figure... (who) has come to mankind’s aid on multiple occasions."
The journalist to whom Musk replied shared that both Magneto and Soros shared a common backstory of 'holocaust survivors with good intentions'.
Musk responded: "You assume they are good intentions. They are not."
Soros, worth $8.5 billion, is among the world's richest people, according to Bloomberg.
