Even Before The Declaration Of Lok Sabha Results, Chandrababu Naidu Says He Doesn’t Want To Become PM

A fortnight before the Loksabha election results are declared, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has ruled himself out of the prime ministerial race, in case of a hung result, reports Hindustan Times.

The TDP supremo’s name was floated as the possible PM candidate of the united opposition forces, should the BJP lose the race, by JDS leader H D Devegowda and NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

Naidu, clearing his stand, said, “I said very clearly that I am not an aspirant for PM. I am doing this now through the media. I am only here to move things forward,’’ saying that he wishes to focus more of his attention on his new state.

Recalling his days as a convener of the United Front in 1995-96, Naidu said, “In 1995-96, I got an opportunity twice to become prime minister, during Deve Gowda’s selection and IK Gujral’s selection. The job was first offered to me and then they asked Deve Gowda ji. He was also reluctant and we all then chose Jyoti Basu, but CPM said no”.
