Explosion At Bus Station Rocks Manhattan, 20 Year Old Bangladeshi Arrested

An explosion was reported near the busy New York Port Authority bus terminal in the morning office rush hours in New York, the city police said.

According to NBC News, the source of sound was not immediately known. The New York Fire Department received call around 7.19 am, local time.

Commuters took to Twitter to confirm the incident.

Designer Chelsea LaSalle tweeted that she was "stuck in a running stampede at port authority bus terminal due to bomb scare. cops EVERYWHERE.

A suspect – a 27 year-old Bangladeshi who lived in Brooklyn – has been taken into custody. He was armed with a five inch metal pipe bomb with a battery pack as he walked through the busy Manhattan transit hub, reports NYPost.

The device was partially detonated in the passageway of the A, C, and E train lines at 8th Avenue and West 42nd Street.

Former New York Police Department (NYPD) commissioner Bill Bratton told MSNCB that the suspect was inspired by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Four people were injured with no casualties being reported so far.
