Explosion At Pulgaon Army Depot In Wardha Leaves Six Dead, More Than Ten Injured

BySwarajya Staff

More than six people have been killed and ten injured as a result of a blast in the Central Ammunition Depot (CAD) at Pulgaon on Tuesday (20 November), Indian Express has reported. The mishap occurred when unserviceable ordnance was being destroyed. Pulgaon is located in the Wardha district of Maharashtra .

The ordnance from the factory in Khamaria (Jabalpur) had been transported to Pulgaon for ‘controlled distraction’. The blast took place early in the morning at around 7 AM.

“As the Ordnance Factory in Khamaria does not have adequate facility needed for controlled distraction, it was brought to a demolition near Central Ammunition Depot (CAD), Pulgaon, where it is generally done. The primary information suggests that the accident took place during this process. Three persons including a staffer of the factory have been killed and four more have been injured. The injured are being treated. Other the ordnance factory staffer, others are villagers,” a defence official told Indian Express.

Officials have said that there will be a probe into the matter and the reason why the villagers were in the vicinity of the blast will be inquired. CAD Pulgaon witnessed a similar incident in May 2016 as a major fire left 17 dead and 19 injured.
