First Blockbuster Of 2019: Small-Budget Uri Joins Rs 100-Crore Club, Weekend Two Outperforms Weekend One

‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ has become 2019’s first Bollywood blockbuster to earn over Rs 100 crores at the box office. Movie critic and analyst, Taran Adarsh tweeted the revenue figures.

The movie, starring Vicky Kaushal, Paresh Rawal and Yami Gautam in lead roles, chronicles the events of the surgical strike conducted by the Indian armed forces against the militants in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Adarsh added that though the Rs 100-crore mark was “not the yardstick to gauge the success of a film, but it should be celebrated when mid-sized films like #SKTKS, #Raazi, #Stree, #BadhaaiHo and #UriTheSurgicalStrike hit century... Content is king and the audiences are king makers!”

He also stated that Uri had received a positive response from foreign audiences.

Critics Review

Reviewing the move, Namrata Joshi, writing for The Hindu, said: "Whichever side of the political divide one may stand, one can't dismiss Dhar's canniness and craft, despite knowing that he is lionising the obvious and providing a one-sided narrative."

Renuka Vyavahare of Times Of India (TOI) wrote: “Uri: The Surgical Strike is a fitting tribute to the Indian Army conceptually but cinematically, it’s not a film without flaws.”
