Ola Group CEO Bhavish Aggarwal revealed on Saturday that the first phase of the vehicle aggregator’s electric scooter factory in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district is close to completion.

SoftBank-backed unicorn Ola Electric, set up in 2017, is the electric vehicle (EV) arm of transportation platform Ola (ANI Technologies Pvt. Ltd)

Being built on nearly 500 acres of land in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district, Ola describes it as ‘Future Factory’. When ready, it will produce 10 million e-scooters every year, making it the largest two-wheeler maker globally.

Moreover, Ola is also set to establish a ‘Hypercharger Network’ that will include about one lakh charging points in around 400 cities across the country.

“In just four months, this place has transformed from acres of empty rock land to the world's largest 2W factory. The Ola Futurefactory phase 1 is nearing completion! The scooters are coming soon! Great work by team @OlaElectric,” Aggarwal’s tweet updating about the development of the e-scooter factory read.

The integrated manufacturing plant will have 10 assembly lines, 3,000 robots and around 10,000 workers. Each e-scooter will have two removable batteries and the company is building a charging network.

Ola Electric had taken over the Dutch electric scooter original equipment manufacturer Etergo BV in May 2020 in order to reinforce its designing and engineering capabilities in the space of electric mobility, Economic Times reports.
