India's leading e-commerce company Flipkart on Wednesday (31 July) launched an initiative called 'Flipkart Samarth' which is aimed at bringing Indian artisans, weavers and handicrafts producers on to the e-commerce platform, reports Economic Times.

The move will allow wider access to market for these sectors and communities, giving them further room to grow and expand in a new constantly growing market with a size of more than 150 million.

According to the report, the host of initiatives and benefits under Flipkart Samarth include dedicated support for onboarding, cataloguing, account management, business insights, dedicated seller support, reduced commission where eligible, and warehousing support.

Under the initiative, Flipkart would work with reputed NGOs and government bodies to reach out to a large number of rural entrepreneurs with a prime focus on women and differently-abled entrepreneurs who face obstacles like paucity of capital, training and infrastructure.

The chief executive officer (CEO) of the Flipkart group Kalyan Krishnamurthy said that as a home grown startup, his company was constantly innovating to find new ways to use e-commerce to uplift and empower all sections of the society, especially MSMEs.
