India on Sunday (26 January) slammed the European Union (EU) Parliament which is looking to move a draft resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and said the matter is internal to India, reports Livemint.
India has also highlighted that the amendments to the Citizenship laws of the nation have been implemented by due course process and democratic means by the Parliament's two houses after a detailed debate in each.
India has expressed hope that the supporters and sponsors of the said draft resolution would engage with it to get a true assessment of facts. India has also asserted that as a democracy, the EU Parliament should not take calls on the rights and authorities of democratically elected representatives elsewhere in the world.
The CAA received the mandatory Parliamentary nod on 11 December. Thereafter, a day later, the Act received the President Ram Nath Kovind's assent. Finally, on 10 January this year, the Act was notified and brought to force.
