For First Time In Over 30 Years Himalayas Visible From Saharanpur As Air Quality Substantially Improves

BySwarajya Staff

For the first time in 30 years the inner Himalayan peaks of Bandarpunch and Gangotri became visible from the town of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh as air quality substantially improved with an AQI of less than 50, reports Times of India.

In the past the town had recorded poor air quality levels of up to 300 leading it impossible for its residents to view the majestic snow clad Himalayan peaks.

Photos of the Himalayan range from Saharanpur were captured by an Income Tax inspector and his wife from their residence. They were shared on twitter by Indian Forest Service officer Ramesh Pandey.

Pandey who was posted in Saharanpur for a long time expressed his joy over the sighting and recounted that he had never managed to view the peaks during his stint in the town.

The peaks are situated at a distance of around 200 kilometres from Saharanpur and are generally only visible from places like Mussoorie.

A few days ago it was reported that peaks of the Dhauladhar mountain range became visible from Jalandhar after a long time. Similarly, a reduction in human activity has substantially improved the water quality levels of Ganga and Yamuna rivers.
