Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Former Maharashtra chief minister and senior Bharatiya Janata party leader Devendra Fadnavis is the BJP in-charge for the assembly elections in Bihar. The polls to be held over three phases will begin on 28 October.
Fadnavis has visited the state a few times and has been part of party's meetings on the polls in Bihar. The decision has reportedly come after BJP chief JP Nadda held discussions with the party leaders from Bihar and Home Minister Amit Shah.
His appointment has come in the background of Chirag Paswan, son of senior LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan, putting his weight for a contest against Nitish Kumar, and over the seat sharing. Paswan is not quite pleased with the BJP on the matter and is said to be interested in a bigger role in the state.
Fadnavis has said that it will be a great learning opportunity for him. He also said that Nitish Kumar will lead the state after NDA registers a win.
Earlier this week, Fadnavis was in news for his meeting with Shiv Sena leader and MP Sanjay Raut. The explanation reported was that Raut was meeting Fadnavis -- the leader of opposition in the state for an interview for Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana.
