In a major blow to former Uttar Pradesh chief minister (CM) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, the Income-Tax (I-T) Department on Tuesday (14 September) attached 'Benami' assets worth a whopping Rs 230 crore, belonging to the now-retired top IAS officer named Net Ram, who was Mayawati's secretary when she was the CM of the state, reports Financial Express.
The attached 'Benami' assets include 19 immovable properties spread across major cities like Delhi, Noida, Kolkata and Mumbai. The assets include both, residential as well as commercial properties.
The development comes as a follow-up to the raid carried out by the department against the retired IAS officer in March this year. The raids and seizure of assets have been executed under section 24(3) of the stringent Benami Property Transactions Act.
