Four terrorists and one Army soldier have reportedly been killed in a gunfight that broke out in Nadigam Village of the Shopian district in South Kashmir on Tuesday morning, and two soldiers have been wounded, as reported by The Indian Express.
An Army spokesman in Srinagar, Col Rajesh Kalia, was quoted by PTI as saying, “Four terrorists have been killed in the operation in Nadigam area of Shopian.” As per a police official, an Army man has been killed while two others were injured in the operation.
A search operation was launched by the Army’s 34 Rashtra Rifles, 23 PARA and SOG Shopian after cordoning off the area to flush out suspected terrorists who were hiding there. As security forces entered the village, they were fired upon by terrorists, and in retaliatory firing, four militants were slain.
Three soldiers were injured in the encounter, one of whom later succumbed to his wounds at the Army Base hospital. After the gunfight flared up, the administration suspended internet services in the area.
