Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday (6 November) announced that Faizabad would henceforth be known as Ayodhya, ABP News reported. The Chief Minister made this announcement while speaking at the occasion of Deepotsav celebrations in the region.
He was quoted by ANI UP as saying that Ayodhya is part of our honour, prestige and pride. He also said that Ayodhya is known because of Lord Ram, following which he announced the renaming.
Some media reports have claimed that Faizabad would actually be renamed as Sri Ayodhya.
While speaking at the event Yogi Adityanath also stated that earlier people were even scared of speaking about Ayodhya and asserted that gods should not be limited to chants and slogans. The celebrations are also being attended by South Korean first lady Kim-Jung Sook who earlier jointly inaugurated the Queen Huh Memorial.
This renaming comes after the Yogi Adityanath government in the state had changed the name of Allahabad to Prayagraj, which was termed by many as the restoring of an identity.
