BySwarajya Staff

A top executive from multinational professional services firm, Genpact, committed suicide after the firm suspended him over accusations of sexual harassment, India Today reports.

Swaroop Raj, the assistant vice-president of the US-based firm, had been suspended till the case was being probed after two employees of the firm filed complaints against him.

On early Tuesday morning (18 December), Swaroop committed suicide at his home in Noida’s Paramount society. His body was found by his wife, Kirti, who also worked in the same company. She found him in an unconscious state when she returned home and informed the police, who took the body for postmortem.

Swaroop was from Ernakulam, Kerala, and had joined Genpact back in 2007. He married Kirti two years ago. The police then recovered a suicide note from his home, in which he said to his wife to trust him, as the allegations were baseless. He also wrote that his wife will now lose respect due to the accusations against him and he would not be able to take it.

After the suspension, Swaroop had been mentally ill. The company had barred him for any involvement in official work until the probe was completed.

"We are in receipt of an alleged complaint of sexual harassment against you from two female employees. You are hereby suspended pending investigation while the Company investigates the said matter,” read the suspension letter issued to him.
