The results to 134 seats of various municipalities, district panchayats and taluka panchayats, polling for which was conducted by the Gujarat State Election Commission on Sunday ( 27 November), are being announced today (29 November). According to Zee Media, the commission is announcing the results of mid-term election of Gondal taluka panchayat, general election of two municipalities and by-election for four district panchayats and 15 taluka panchayats.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took a massive lead in district panchayat, taluka panchayat and nagarpalika by-polls winning 23 seats, while the Congress only managed to win eight.

In Surat - Kanakpur-Kansad nagarpalika polls, while BJP won 27 seats out of total 28 seats, Congress shrunk to just one seat.

On the same lines, BJP won 41 seats out of 44 in Vapi nagarpalika polls. Congress registered a win on three.

The results are a big boost for the BJP ahead of the Gujarat assembly polls next year. The mandate can also be seen as an approval for the central government’s demonetisation move.
