On Monday (20 May), six people were arrested in Surat for observing Godse's birthday, reports Deccan Herald.
The police said that a group of people, believed to be members of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha, and they had conducted a ceremony for Godse on Sunday in a temple.
The FIR was registered at the Limbayat police station in Surat against the six people. Their identity is still unknown. The arrested ones are Hiren Mashru, Vala Bharvad, Viral Malvi, Hitesh Sonara, Manish Kala and Yogesh Patel. The others are still at large.
They were charged under section 153 (promoting enmity between different groups) and 153 A (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) and various other sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The police reported that the accused had conducted an event at a Hanuman temple. The video clip of that event is doing the rounds in Congress leaders tweets.
"RSS and BJP have encouraged Mahatma Gandhi's murders so much that that BJP leader Pragya Thakur called Godse a patriot and today in Gujarat Hindu Mahasabha people dared to celebrate his birthday. Godse supporters should not have a place in this country," tweeted Congress Committee chief Amit Chavda.
