Haryana IAS Officer Indicted For Embezzling Rs 60 Lakh In Sports Prizes For Own Children; Latter’s Bhim Award Questioned 

IAS officer Jagdeep Singh has been indicted in a Haryana government inquiry for embezzlement after the probe concluded that he had fraudulently secured cash prizes of Rs 60 lakh for his two children through bogus claims, reports Business Standard. Both his children are international shooters.

The authorities have now sought to register a criminal case against Singh and his two children on charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust and corruption.

The probe has concluded that Singh managed to pass his children’s fraudulent claims and secured cash prizes for them when he was serving as the state’s Sports Department Director in the 2013-16 period.

Another recommendation made by the probe is to strip away the Bhim award, which is granted to sportspersons in the state, from Singh’s children, besides taking back the award money with an interest of 12 per cent per annum.

A show cause notice has been sent to the trio seeking a response from them within two weeks explaining why criminal action should not be initiated against them.

Currently, Singh is posted in Finance Department of the state government. He has rejected all the allegations made against him and asserted that his children had won a number of international competitions due to their own merit.
