The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday (7 October) said that there were evidences of approximately Rs 100 crore being routed to Uttar Pradesh to instigate caste and communal conflict in the wake of alleged gang-rape and murder of a Dalit girl in Hathras.
The money has been sent through hawala channels and according to the ED, about Rs 50 crore came from Mauritius, The Times of India reported citing sources.
As per the report, the ED is tracing the data and looking for some suspects linked to the recently blacklisted website 'Justice for Hathras' to find out if it was used to channel the money.
Yogi Adityanath-led UP government has been receiving massive backlash from various social and political groups over alleged atrocities on people from SC/ST category.
However, the government has alleged a politically motivated campaign to malign its image. The Chief Minister had said on Monday that a "a host of organisations" were using foreign funding and conspiring against the government by invoking caste conflicts.
It has also requested the Supreme Court to order a court-monitored CBI inquiry in the matter.
