HC Tells Siddaramaiah Govt Not To Approve Bengaluru’s 2031 Revised Master Plan Without Court’s Consent

The High Court of Karnataka on Monday (16 October) directed the Siddaramaiah-led state government to not approve the Bangalore Development Authority's Revised Master Plan (RMP) for 2031 without the consent of the court, reports Deccan Herald.

The Bangalore Metropolitan Planning Committee (BMPC) is the constitutional body instituted for creating and implementing the master plans, according to the petitioners Namma Bengaluru Foundation (NBF) and Citizens Action Forum. However, the BDA has formulated the RMP and sent them to be approved by the state government, thus bypassing the BMPC.

The divisional bench comprising of acting Chief Justice H G Ramesh and P S Dinesh Kumar – while hearing a PIL filed by NBF – directed the BDA to follow due process.

The BMPC was set up to be the nodal authority for all development and planning in Bengaluru metropolitan area. However, the state government has not involved the BMPC in any decision making.
