Ahead of the festival of Diwali, the Union Minister for Health, Dr Harsh Vardhan on Saturday (5 October) launched eco-friendly firecrackers which have been manufactured in India, reports The Economic Times.

The crackers, according to Dr Vardhan have been developed in the labs of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). These crackers include sound-emitting crackers, pencil and flowerpot crackers and also sparklers.

As many as 165 fireworks manufacturers have been roped into to produce the crackers developed by CSIR under license, and 65 more of such manufacturers are expected to come on-board soon.

The newly launched green crackers can be differentiated from the conventional crackers by a green logo and well as a Quick Response (QR) coding system.
