Himachal Pradesh police on Sunday (4 November) arrested one more accused in connection with the Rs 40-lakh online fraud case which was registered at the Shillai police station in Sirmaur district, Times of India has reported.

Superintendent of Police, Sirmaur, Rohit Maplani, said that a special investigation team (SIT) of Sirmaur police arrested Satyajit Majumdar, the second accused in the fraud case, from Kolkata.

The arrest was made in relation to a case registered at Shillai police station on 25 November last year under Section 420 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), in which it was alleged that fake jobs in multinational companies (MNCs) were promised by the accused to unsuspecting persons. The entire fraud was estimated to be of around Rs 40 lakh.

A transit remand for Majumdar was sought by the team from a local court in 24 Parganas of Kolkata, Maplani said. The accused was granted interim anticipatory for transit with directions to remain present on 16 November at Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court in Paonta Sahib, he added.

The SIT had, earlier, arrested Subrata Sarkar in the case from Siliguri in West Bengal in October. Following the arrest, police obtained Sarkar’s transit remand from a Sirmaur court and took him to Kolkata in order to nab other accused gang members resulting in arrest of Majumdar, Maplani said.
