Union Minister for Home Affairs Rajnath Singh will be celebrating Dasara this year by performing a Shastra Puja (worship of weapons) at the India-Pakistan border. Officials on Sunday (14 October) announced this news to the media. Incidentally, it will be the first time a senior cabinet minister will be seen performing the Puja.
As per a report in The Hindu, the minister is scheduled to reach Bikaner on 18 October to celebrate Dasara with the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel. Following the celebrations, Shastra Puja will be observed and performed at the outpost across the forward areas at the border. The Puja signifies Lord Ram’s victory over Ravan.
He will be celebrating the festival after a day of arrival, on October 19, the report said. Along with performing the rituals, it is said that he will be reviewing the condition along the border and making assessments of the growth of infrastructural projects there. Later, he is scheduled to dine with the soldiers in a programme called ‘Bada Khana’.
In 2017, Rajnath Singh celebrated Dasara at the Indo-China border that falls near Joshimath in Uttarakhand.
