IAF Orders 1000 Air-To-Air Missiles From Russia To Arm Sukhoi Su-30MKI And MiG-29M Fighters In $700 Million Deal

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has placed an order for 1,000 more air-to-air missiles (AAMs) with Russia, reports Jane’s 360 . The deal is estimated to be worth $700 million and will help procure armaments for Sukhoi and MiG fighters.

The order is composed of 300 R-27 infrared-guided medium to long range missiles, 300 R-73E infrared-guided missiles which have a short range, and 400 R-77s which are active radar guided and have a medium range.

R-27 missiles are being procured for the Sukhoi Su-30MKI and the MiG-29M fighter aircraft, while the R-77s and R-73 will arm the MiG-21 ‘Bison’ fighters.

It is believed that this latest procurement of missiles is part of the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD’s) 10-I (Intense) order, which requires the three defence services to have enough ammunition and supplies to last for intense warfare last up to 10 days.
