In Aftermath Of AN-32 Crash, IAF Looks To Procure All Terrain Vehicles For Rescue Operations

BySwarajya Staff

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is on the lookout to acquire all terrain vehicles (ATV) after its personnel experienced difficulty finding the remains of the AN-32 transport aircraft which had gone missing in Arunachal Pradesh, reports The Economic Times.

It had taken days of struggle for IAF teams to reach the site of the crash through the difficult mountainous terrain of the state.

Recently, a demonstration of ATVs was given to officers of the IAF, and currently discussions are ongoing about the exact requirements of the force. The demonstration was conducted by Polaris India at its Faridabad facility.

Explaining the usefulness of ATVs for rescue missions, country head of Polaris India, Pankaj Dubey said, "The vehicles can be equipped with rescue equipment and can carry personnel. In the past we have demonstrated rescue missions.”

ATVs are meant for rugged and difficult terrain, and can make their way across jungles, deserts, etc much better than conventional vehicles. Currently, they are in use by the Indian Army and the paramilitary forces.
