In Delhi: Centralised EWS Admission From Class II This Year 

The Directorate of Education (DoE) is reportedly planning to introduce a centralised online admission process in private schools built on public land, for children from the economically weaker section (EWS) from class II onwards.

The admissions for reserved seats for nursery, KG and class I are conducted by the education department itself. However, there is no consolidated process upwards of entry-level classes, according to Indian Express.

“It has been decided to fill all vacancies/seats available under free ship quota and also EWS/DG category through a computerised draw of lot(s) after inviting online applications, ” IE quoted a circular issued by the DoE to schools on 27 July 2018 as saying.

The process, however, reportedly failed to take off in the year 2018-2019, due to the DoE official's inability to collect accurate data regarding the number of new admissions made by these schools in that year.

The move, according to reports, is part of centralisation of all EWS/DG admissions, with private schools recognised by the municipal corporations also being brought into the fold of the centralised online admission process.

The government had allotted institutional land so that private schools could be set up, on the condition that they would admit applicants from economically weaker sections. From class II onwards, these schools have to set aside 20 per cent of all new admissions in each class for the category.
