“Certain instances of supply of weapons via drones from across the Pakistan border have come to the notice of security and law enforcement agencies. Government is taking various steps to meet such challenges,” the Ministry of Home Affairs informed Rajya Sabha.

“These steps include effective surveillance, streamlining intelligence set up, capacity building of forces, patrolling on the borders, sensitization of local population in border areas, establishment of observation posts, modern and hi-tech surveillance equipment use, etc.” it said.

The ministry also informed that the fencing work on Indo-Bangladesh Border could not be completed due to difficult terrain, riverine and marshy land, short working season, land acquisition problems, public protests and objections by Border Guard Bangladesh, etc.

“Government is regularly monitoring progress of fence work. BSF has deployed personnel along with floating Border Out Posts and boats for guarding riverine border on Indo-Bangladesh Border, along with floodlights/High Mast Lights installed to cover small river/nallah gaps along the border,” it added.
