Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra
India will host a virtual summit of the 'Global South' countries on 12 and 13 January, foreign secretary Vinay Kwatra said on Friday (6 January).
The event will be called 'Voice of Global South Summit' and its theme will be 'Unity of voice, unity of purpose'.
India is inviting over 120 countries to participate in the virtual summit, Kwatra informed at a press conference.
He added that the summit essentially envisages bringing together countries of the global south and sharing their perspectives, on a common platform, across a whole range of issues.
Kwatra said that this initiative is inspired by PM Narendra Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas'.
'Global South' countries refers to the nations of the world which are regarded as having a relatively low level of economic and industrial development as compared to the developed economies.
The term is often used to identify regions within Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.
