In a boost for the Indian Army's surveillance capabilities in the Eastern Ladakh region, the force has begun to receive the initial deliveries of all-new specialised boats for deployment at the Pangong Tso lake, reports Times of India.

This comes after the Indian Army had signed two contracts for specialised boats about six-seven months ago.

The second contract was signed with a Goa-based private shipyard for procurement of 17 troop-carrying flat-bottom fibreglass boats that can carry around 20 soldiers in one go. The initial deliveries for the same have now begun.

The orders had been placed by the Indian Army in the light of the heightened tensions between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh following the latter's expansive adventurism at multiple locations in the region.
