Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqeer, a terrorist belonging to the outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM) and often called ‘India’s Osama’, was arrested by the Delhi Police today after a tip on his movements, Times of India has reported.
Qureshi, according to reports, was the mastermind of the 2008 serial blasts in Gujarat. Over 20 bomb blasts in Ahmedabad on 26 July 2008 had killed at least 56 people. He was also involved in the July 2006 Mumbai train bombings and Delhi serial blasts.
The terrorist was IM’s top bomb-maker and held the top rank in the Students Islamic Movement (SIMI) of India after the outfit’s general secretary, Safdar Nagori, was arrested from Madhya Pradesh’s Indore in March 2008.
According to special cell officers, Qureshi assembled the bombs that were used in the Ahmedabad serial blasts and trained IM operatives who made improvised explosive devices used in Delhi serial blasts.
Qureshi is believed to have been recruited by SIMI in 1998.
