British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has appointed Indian-origin Suella Braverman as his new Attorney General in the newly reshuffled Cabinet, reports NDTV.

She formally sworn in on Monday (24 February) for the post at a ceremony organised at the Royal Courts of Justice in London.

After being sworn in, Braverman said, "It is a privilege to be sworn in as attorney general and a moment I will cherish as the second woman to be appointed to this historic role."

She said her first plan of action will be to restore confidence in the criminal justice system. She also thanked her predecessor for his work and his distinguished service to the government.

Braverman is a law graduate from the Queen's College Cambridge University and also an Entente Cordiale Scholar, where she completed a Master's degree in European and French Law at Pantheon-Sorbonne University.

During her time as an undergraduate student in Cambridge, she was Chairman of the Cambridge University Conservative Association.

Braverman, born Suella Fernandes to migrant parents from Kenya and Mauritius, now has the distinction of becoming the first female Attorney General to be appointed by a Conservative Party government.
