Indian Railways has achieved yet another glorious feat by breaking all records of net annual coach production at its different factories by wide margins.
Together, under Rail Minister Piyush Goyal's supervision the three coach factories of the Indian Railways namely, Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Modern Coach Factory (MCF) and Rail Coach Factory (RCF) produced a record 6,037 coaches in total, belittling the previous year's figure of 4,470 coaches which was the previous record. This marks a stellar 35 per cent growth in production.
The remarkable achievement has been accomplished despite each of these factories being pushed to diversify their production, producing pantry cars, power cars, LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch), MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit), EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) coaches along with working on indigenous and totally new concept projects like Train-18 Vande Bharat Express at ICF.
Apart from the above mentioned achievement, ICF in Chennai also went on to earn the crown of being the largest rail car builder in the world. It beat China's top manufacturer with an annual production which hovers around 2,600 coaches annually.
Meanwhile, in the politically hot constituency of Raebareli, the MCF too surpassed its assigned target yet again, producing 1,425 coaches in total, against the target of 1,422. This marks more than 100 per cent growth in production at the MCF which had produced 711 coaches in the previous financial year against the assigned target of 710 coaches.
Furthering its achievements, MCF in January also achieved its highest ever monthly production by building out 152 coaches in a month. With new heights being achieved in coach production, all three coach factories are poised to perform even much better in the financial year 2019-2020.
