BySwarajya Staff

One of the most important pilgrimages for Hindus will get much easier with Indian Railways initiating a project to connect Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri with a rail network.

Survey on laying rail tracks to connect these four pilgrimage spots would commence soon, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said. The char dhams draw lakhs of pilgrims every summer.

Work on the crucial Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway line will start this year, while the survey on the Tanakpur-Bagehshwar railway line in Kumaon would also commence very soon. The 126-km long Rishikesh-Karnaprayag line would have 15 tunnels, 15 bridges and 10 railway stations.
