Going all out to expand India's exports to China, a delegation led by the Indian Tobacco Board (ITB) held talks with China's State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) on Friday (28 June) in Beijing, making a strong pitch for the export of India's high quality and organically cultivated tobacco to China, reports The Hindu Businessline.

India is the world's third largest producer of tobacco with annual exports being valued at Rs 5,000 crore to more than 115 distinct destinations including quality-conscious markets like Europe and Japan. China on the other hand is the world's largest producer and consumer of tobacco products.

The Indian delegation, led by ITB chairperson K Sunitha made a detailed presentation to the Chief Commissioner of the STMA and underscored a number of salient features attached with the Indian tobacco industry.

Sunitha also emphasised that due to its proximity, India could also lower the logistical costs involved in the exports to China. She also mentioned that the Indian produce of tobacco was pesticide residue free and organically cultivated.

Highlighting that the Indian tobacco exports to China were negligible, Sunitha pitched that India was well suited and prepared to supply superior tobacco with consistency in price, volume, quality and compliance.
