Coronavirus update
The covid case fatality in the country has come down to 2.49 per cent for the first time. This not just puts India among countries with the lowest fatality rates, but also indicates the rapid changes in the containment strategies, aggressive testing methods being put in place.
Around 29 states are said to fare better than the national average. Most North eastern states of India have fared well and are among the top 14 states having a covid fatality rate of less than 1 per cent.
Manipur, Sikkim, Mizoram, Nagaland and the Andaman and Nicobar islands have a record of zero deaths so far. The country’s fatality rate has been progressively falling, and the health ministry attributes it to the focused efforts of both the central and the state government on ‘efficient clinical management of hospitalised cases’.
The recovery rate too has been improving recently as 23,672 people are said to have recovered in 24 hours (from 18 July to 19 July evening). The current recovery rate of the country stands at 62.86 per cent.
The number of discharged Covid affected people stands at 7,00,086 as of today, as reported by the Ministry of Health and Family welfare.
