Congress workers yesterday (23 April) staged a protest in front of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) office in Raipur and demanded that BJP leader Bhima Mandavi be arrested for his Facebook post on Rahul Gandhi.
Mandavi, a former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Dantewada in Chattisgarh, has apologised for the post and deleted it. He has claimed that the post wasn’t created by him directly but was put up by his social media handlers. Madavi is also a national secretary of the BJP ST Morcha.
"This should not have happened. Although I didn't post the picture myself but those who handle my social media profiles posted it, I have already apologised for it," Mandavi said.
The post in question had an image of a child urinating on Rahul Gandhi with a caption saying that the Congress party was ‘dividing Hindus’ and that the Gandhi family had looted the country.
Congress party leaders however, demanded that Mandavi should be arrested immediately and that the BJP should publicly apologise for the post.
Earlier, a Yakshagana artist had been suspended for imitating Rahul Gandhi in Karnataka.
Congress party leaders however, are known for their regular derogatory remarks on Prime Minister Modi, including Mani Shanar Aiyar’s ‘chai wala’ and Sonia Gandhi’s ‘maut ka saudagar’ comments.
