Investing In Gujarat? Then 80 Per Cent Of Your Staff Must Soon Be Local

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has said that 80 per cent local hiring would be mandatory in the state and a law would be passed on the matter, Business Standard has reported. The proposed law will also require industrialists to hire 25 per cent of the workforce in the place where they have set up the industry.

"The state government has taken a decision that any entrepreneur wanting to set up his industrial unit or service sector business in Gujarat must give 80 per cent of their total jobs to Gujaratis. We will bring a law soon in this regard. In addition, industries have to recruit 25 per cent locals belonging to the area where the unit would come up. We will bring a law to fix the responsibilities of industries in this regard," the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister was speaking at an event related to Mukhyamantri Apprenticeship Yojana. He handed-over contract letters to 8,500 beneficiaries under CM Apprenticeship Training Programme at Ahmedabad. He said that Gujarat was on the top with 26 per cent in facilitating training under ‘Apprenticeship Act’ and has set a target of engaging one lakh apprentices by March 2019.

Readers may note that since the time of Keshubhai Patel, a law in this regard was in force, but was not strictly implemented.
