It’s ‘Official’: Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu Lays Foundation Stone For Government Secretariat At Amaravati

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today (27 December) laid the foundation stone of the new secretariat and head of department buildings in Andhra Pradesh’s under-construction capital Amaravati, reports Mint.

The buildings are being built by the AP Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). The ceremony was conducted at the Rayapudi village in Guntur district. Amaravati capital region is situated between Guntur and Vijayawada districts.

The construction work had previously faced a number of delays due to design changes in major buildings such as the high court and state assembly, part of the ‘government city’ portion of Amaravati.

The development comes nearly five years after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into two separate states – Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Amaravati’s construction is part of the plan to move all Andhra Pradesh government buildings away from Hyderabad, which was temporarily made the capital of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in 2014.

“The new capital will have five main towers housing important buildings like the secretariat and High Court,” stated an AP CRDA official.

He added that the plan for the five towers had been given the final go-ahead by Naidu around two months ago. The core city of the new capital is being constructed over 217 square km, while the whole capital region is spread across 8,603 square km.
